Practice guides

Build experience across daylight, darkness, roads, traffic and weather—without rewarding risky driving.

Build variety, not endurance

Work from calm, familiar roads toward busier intersections, different traffic patterns and new environments with a supervising adult. Gradually add complexity as readiness improves.

Daylight and darkness

Night driving calls for different observation and speed-management skills. Schedule supervised night practice where allowed, and track it separately when your licensing pathway requires it.

Weather and road conditions

Wet pavement, reduced visibility and seasonal conditions change stopping distances and visibility. A supervisor should decide whether conditions are appropriate; never drive in unsafe conditions merely to complete a quest.

Plan breaks

Practice should not be an endurance contest. If tired or distracted, stop safely. Read our drowsy-driving guidance and the supervised-practice research.
